“The truth will set you free… but first it will piss you off.” – It’s one of those quotes that makes you laugh a little, then pause because… well, yeah. There’s some truth in that.
Gloria Steinem spent much of her life challenging the status quo and championing women’s rights, becoming one of the most recognizable voices of the modern feminist movement.
But what I find particularly interesting is that she didn’t really begin that journey until her mid-30s. There’s something encouraging in that. We tend to put strange deadlines on ourselves. By this age, we should know what we’re doing. By that age, we should have found our purpose, built the career, started the thing, become the person. Life, thankfully, doesn’t seem particularly interested in our schedules.

We were honored to photograph Gloria Steinem, and looking back at that experience, I’m reminded that sometimes the most important chapter of your life doesn’t begin when everyone expects it to.
Sometimes, you’re just getting started. And sometimes, before the truth sets you free, it might piss you off first.
